When a person is present during an unusually stressful incident, that person often experiences personal stress which can continue long beyond the incident. Persons who are in involved in helping professions such as hospital staff, ambulance personnel, police and fire fighters are likely to be exposed to unusually stressful incidents. The general public is also affected by fires, witnessing a traumatic or violent incident, floods and other natural disasters, etc. People who are negatively affected by these events have a difficult time resuming “normal” life, both personally and professionally.

A psychological debriefing process is often an effective tool which helps individuals cope with stress and move on. It helps the person to identify stress indicators and side effects. It gives the person the opportunity to hear how others who were there are coping. It can help bring closure to their experience.

The International Critical Incident Stress Foundation, Inc. (ICISF) offers debriefing training. This training is done by trainers whom they have certified and who have a wide experience of leading debriefings. The plan is to provide this training to community leaders.

The training event trainer will be Rev. Lee Gale. Lee is a Methodist pastor who has extensive CISM training experience and has provided debriefings at disasters around the country. He is a member of the North Dakota CISM Team and is certified by ICISF as a trainer. Identified Innovis staff and community leaders will be invited to the training event.

This event will take place October 2 and 3 in the Innovations Room at Innovis Hospital,

3000 32nd Ave S, Fargo
.
